Become the next Olympian!
Well, the Olympics will be arriving soon, and you will be seeing and hearing all about curling, whether through the endless adverts or from friends who will already be trying it themselves.
Maybe you will see or have seen Romesh and Rob sliding around on Sky Sports and think, “I’ll be doing that next!”
We will be hosting loads of Try Curling events throughout the Olympics, and you will be able to find them all right here: https://tunbridgewellscurlingclub.co.uk/curling/events/
What Next?
After you have tried it, you will soon be inspired as you watch the curling action at the Winter Olympics and Paralympics, and you will start wondering whether you could give it a go yourself.
Well… starting in March, you can learn how to curl at England’s premier curling venue, and you will discover just how easy (and addictive!) this sport will be to pick up.
In just four weeks, our coaches will take you from complete beginner to someone confident enough to play in leagues with others.
Curling will be a sport for everyone — ages 8 to 80! (And yes, you will meet curlers at both ends of that range.) The sport will remain fully accessible to wheelchair users and those with limited mobility, with a variety of delivery aids ensuring everyone will be able to play.
Over Four Weeks, You Will Learn:
Lesson 1
Basics of the curling slide
Slide progression, two‑stone slide, broom on ice, stabiliser, broom with stone
Stone release
Hand signals explained
Throwing a stone the full length of the ice
Sweeping technique demonstrated and practised
Team positions and throwing order
A two‑end game to finish
Lesson 2
Delivery drill review and progression
Sliding through and at cones to sharpen aim
Draws and takeouts explained and practised
Team roles and basic rules
Supervised match play with rotating positions
Lesson 3
Balance drills
Sliding to different distances for weight control
Delivering stones just past the hog line
Full‑length draws and takeouts
Team communication — hand signals, calling weight, calling line
Basic strategy
Supervised match play focusing on communication and strategy
Lesson 4
Balance drills
Line‑of‑delivery drills
Delivery tips from coaches
Advanced takeout and draw practice (progressive hotline and crazy eights)
Etiquette explanation
Supervised match play with an etiquette focus
Post‑match discussion, next steps, beginners leagues, bonspiels
What You Will Need
Sessions will last two hours and will run once a week. All equipment will be provided, you will only need warm, flexible clothing so you can slide freely (jeans will not be your friend).
The monthly Learn and Develop program will cost £80 per person (£100 if there is a 5th week). Bookings will be made individually, but if you will be coming with friends or family, we will group you together on the ice, just tell the coaches when you arrive.
Simply book the session that will work for you here: https://tunbridgewellscurlingclub.co.uk/curling/leagues/
We will look forward to welcoming you to our sport and watching you slide your way toward greatness.
